We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to raise over £75,120 to allow us to complete our most ambitious project to date. The family room refurbishment in the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital, Glasgow has encompassed 6 beautiful bespoke rooms to support parents, families and visitors:

The refurbishment included :
A counselling room in the Early Pregnancy Unit
A counselling room in the Day Assessment Unit
A family room in the Neonatal unit
Two Family rooms and a sitting room in the Labour Ward

The empathy and understanding of everyone who has fundraised to support this refurbishment has been so apparent from the very beginning, and we wanted to say a special thank you to all the parents who fundraised to make this project possible.

This project has been so close to so many hearts and whether our fundraisers had used a family room recently or many years ago, or wanted to support a family member/friend, or had experienced a family room in another hospital and wanted to give the same gift to others we cannot thank you enough! The support, enthusiasm and dedication that our parents showed in memory of their baby shone through and we have loved working with each and every one of you.

The support for this project has been truly overwhelming from both individuals and businesses. Altro donated the flooring, the Bell Group donated the paint and the St Patrick's Day Ball Committee raised over £18,100 at their event then donated an additional £1960 to allow us to reach our fundraising target.

Jeni, Kevin and Tuathal from the committee are pictured below presenting their cheque to Lisa Hague, Sara Fitzsimmons and members of the PRM Hospital Staff.

We would also like to thank the incredible PRMH Hospital Staff who swam across Lochs (Rachel Harrison), cycled the country (Fiona McComb, Jennifer Johansson and Gillian Mcloughlin) and even jumped out of planes (Ellen Richardsons PRM
Sky diving team) to support SiMBA.

Sara Fitzsimmons MBE, RM, CEO, SiMBA said “These staff members recognise the importance of ensuring that the highest levels of bereavement care and support are offered to all families, and have gone above and beyond to ensure that this project is delivered. By refurbishing these rooms we are acknowledging the loss of a baby at every stage during pregnancy and after birth. These rooms have been created with passion, using the experiences and suggestions from bereaved families and staff who support those families.

Working with a strong team is vital to the success of any project, and these rooms would not have been possible without the support of Vicki Mazzoni (Interim Lead Midwife),  Marjorie Clark (Senior Charge Nurse, NNU) and Connor Murray (pictured below) who first raised the need for a specialist area for bereaved families and planted the seed for this incredible project.”

Sara added “We launched an appeal for items to be donated to the family room on our Amazon wish list and in less than 6 hours all 82 items were purchased. This really shows the importance that these rooms have with the support of everyone behind this project. These rooms will give families the space that they need and permission to spend time with their baby. The comforts that these rooms provide will make this possible.”

The family rooms were completed at the beginning of March, just before the Coronavirus outbreak, and as a result we were unable to hold the planned formal unveiling, however, it’s important to know that the rooms are available for use in supporting bereaved families across Greater Glasgow.

We are so proud of these rooms that we wanted to share a little piece of them to give you an idea of how they look, although we will share all the pictures with you when they are formally unveiled at a later date.
