SiMBA is here to support anyone who has been affected by the loss of a baby during pregnancy or close to the time of birth. We were delighted to be approached by Greig Campbell who nominated SiMBA in memory of his son Jakob to be one of the EnQuest Magnus platform charities for 2021. Greig and his partner Claire have previously fundraised for us raising over £3,700 with help from their friends and Claire’s colleagues at the Co-Op in Tain.

The EnQuest Magnus platform is situated in the East Shetland basin and throughout this year the number of "Green Days" attained will be counted and multiplied by £50. The platform has chosen two charities to support this year, these being SiMBA and the Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Both these charities will be the beneficiaries of these donations in 2022.

“My partner Claire and I lost our little boy Jakob four years ago in June this year. Throughout that time the support from SiMBA was invaluable, even just knowing you guys are there and the work you do helps a lot. As you know there's not a day goes by when Jakob's not in our thoughts. We have a leaf for our wee man on the tree in Inverness and we would like to support the family room refurbishment in Raigmore”

The donation that we receive from the Magnus platform will not only support SiMBA’s vital services but 60% will be allocated directly to support the Raigmore Family Room Project. The most comprehensive refurbishment that SiMBA has ever under-taken costing £85,00.

The refurbishment will include:

The refurbishment of a stairwell to offer private access to our family rooms in Ward 10
The refurbishment of a family room, delivery room and a quiet room in Ward 10
The refurbishment of a family room in the Labour Ward
The refurbishment of a family suite in the Neonatal Unit
The refurbishment of an overnight room in ward 9 for early pregnancy loss

Here is an artists impression of how the family room will look :

Di Matheson, Midwife in Raigmore told us just how important this project is  : “These rooms would give privacy ...quiet .....and space for families to have with their little ones. Even visitors would be able to come into the ward by the stairs rather than walk through the corridors.”

In the midst of the Global pandemic fundraising for this project has continued and over £28,400 (or 33% of the target) has now been raised. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Greig, Claire and all their colleagues on the Enquest Magnus Platform who agreed to support SiMBA as one of their chosen charities this year, your support really does mean the world to us.
