Registration has now closed for the Stornoway Butterfly Remembrance. We hope that you will be able to join us at a future SiMBA event.

The SiMBA Butterfly Remembrance is a unique event offering support and providing a safe space for families affected by the loss of a baby to come together. The Service gives the opportunity to be with others who understand and brings family, friends, healthcare professionals, and the community together to honour babies in a gentle and meaningful way.

We would like to invite you and those closest to you, to join us at this incredibly special event.

The SiMBA Stornoway Butterfly Remembrance will be held in the beautiful Lews Castle. We would like to thank Joanne Murray Stewart for her support in organising this event and Carol Millar for performing.

FAQ’s

What happens during the service?
When you register for the service there will be a space to write your baby’s name, or the name you know your baby by. We will gather all the names shared with us to display on butterfly bunting. At each service, during our butterfly remembrance poem and music of reflection, we will display this beautiful bunting, and together we will honour all our babies in a positive and meaningful way. You will also receive a packet of butterfly friendly wildflower seeds to take away and plant somewhere special to you, so we can all attract butterflies in their natural habitat.

Is the event religious?
The Butterfly Remembrance is a non-religious service.

How long does the event last?
Approximately 30mins.

What time should I arrive?
Please arrive from 11am to begin at 11:30am.

Do I have to register?
Please register your attendance and confirm the number of guests in your party. There is no limit on the number of guests that you can bring with you.

How much does it cost?
This year the Scottish Government has supported the Butterfly Remembrance events, although you can still make a donation to support our services when you register. Please note that our booking form requires a minimum donation of £0.01 to cover our processing costs, and any additional donation that you make will allow us to continue to be there for families affected by baby loss.

If you would prefer not to donate, or if you would like to purchase additional butterflies then please email yvonnealexander@simbacharity.org.uk

Do I have to share my baby's name?
No, if you would like to join us but do not wish to display a butterfly, please do not complete the section on the form.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) staying safe and protecting others

If you are unwell with COVID-19 symptoms or have a high temperature, you should follow the ‘Stay at Home’ guidance available on NHS Inform.

We politely request that you:

  • Cover your nose and mouth if coughing or sneezing

  • Hand sanitise regularly at the event.

  • Try and keep some distance from those outside your own household – take a step back. We are  supporting the Scottish Governments Distance Aware scheme. The scheme is designed to help those worried about mixing with others as we adapt to living with COVID-19. By wearing a Distance Aware badge or lanyard it shows others that you need space. Free lanyards and badges are available from your local ASDA, libraries and can be ordered online here :Distance Aware - Bevan Commission. For more information on the Distance Aware Scheme click:  www.gov.scot/distanceaware
